Medium and high voltage
Sell surplus medium and high-voltage cable in Kentucky
Medium-voltage cable is the most expensive wire on most sites and the least likely to be counted. A substation or feeder project that changes scope can leave a 500-foot reel of 15kV cable worth more than everything else in the laydown yard.
- 15kV XLPE shielded cable in 1/0 through 750 kcmil copper.
- 25kV and 35kV EPR or XLPE cable with concentric neutral, on full reels.
- 5kV and 8kV cable for plant distribution and motor feeders.
- 69kV and above transmission-class cable when it becomes available.
- Reels with factory-sealed ends and legible footage tags.
- Substation and switchyard surplus from utility and industrial projects.
Why the details matter more here
Medium-voltage cable is not interchangeable. Two reels of 15kV cable can differ in conductor size, insulation level, shield type, jacket material and whether the neutral is concentric or served. A buyer needs all of those details before the reel is worth anything, and a reel with unknown history may need a test before it is reused.
We ask for voltage class, conductor size and metal, insulation type, shield and neutral construction, and the footage on the reel. If the reel tag is intact, photograph it. If the reel has been cut, photograph the cut end so the shield and insulation layers are visible.
| Detail | Examples |
|---|---|
| Voltage class | 15kV, 25kV, 35kV, 69kV |
| Conductor | 1/0 copper, 500 kcmil aluminum, 750 kcmil copper |
| Insulation | XLPE, EPR, 133 percent level |
| Shield | Copper tape, wire shield, drain wires |
| Neutral | Concentric neutral, served neutral, no neutral |
| Footage | As tagged, or measured from the reel circumference |
Handling and pickup
Medium-voltage reels are heavy and are usually moved with a forklift or a crane. Tell us the reel diameter and approximate weight if you know it, and whether a truck can get to the reel. We arrange pickup once a purchase is agreed, and we would rather plan the lift than discover a loading problem on the day.
Questions about medium and high-voltage cable
Do you buy used medium-voltage cable?
We look at it case by case. Cable that has been in service usually needs test results before it can be reused, so send whatever documentation exists and we will tell you what is realistic.
What does concentric neutral mean?
It is a layer of copper wires wrapped around the insulation to serve as the neutral and the metallic shield, common in URD and distribution cable. It adds copper to the reel and changes how the cable is priced.
Can you handle a 69kV reel?
Yes, when it becomes available. These reels need crane handling and a flatbed, so tell us the reel size early so pickup can be planned properly.
Sell your medium and high-voltage cable
Give us the size, the footage and a photo of the tag. We reply with an offer or one clarifying question.
Ready to move it out of the crib?
Tell us where the material is and how it loads. We will arrange pickup once the offer is agreed.
